The End of F***ing World: One Best Dark Comedy Series

This is one of the best dark comedy shows ever, having debuted in 2017. I discovered this great show while scrolling down my Instagram reels.

Thanks to Instagram Shorts and all the content creators who used scenes and characters from this show.

It is without any doubt a treat to watch.

The show has a total of 2 seasons, and it focuses on the funny and cute love story of two 17-year-olds: James and Alyssa.

Let me discuss both seasons one by one.

Starting with:

Season 1 Review

The show starts with James, who has thought of himself as a sociopath killer since childhood, and now he is looking for some big fish to kill. Then he met Alyssa, who was interested in him, and he decided to kill her out of nowhere.

Alyssa was not less than him, but she was an even bigger weirdo. They both started dating, and then they decided to leave their houses so they could just be themselves.

However, their plan did not go as planned, and they experienced an unexpected series of events that had a significant impact on their lives.

The first season was all based on how they both started to fall for each other and the journey they were now on. Their love story was really cute, simple, and funny at the same time. They will captivate you from the first scene to the last.

I really enjoyed the character of James, who was very cold and emotionless at the beginning before later turning into a loving and caring boyfriend.

The dance scene is one of my favorites from them:

Two complete outcasts dancing and having fun in their own ways.

This scene was proof that they are both perfect for each other.

Now, let's get to the:

Season 2 Review

We saw completely new versions of James and Alyssa in the next season because of the tragic events that happened to them in the past. Other than these two, a new character was introduced in the next season named Bonnie. She was also an interesting character and a bigger psycho than those two could ever be.

We have seen Alyssa wearing her wedding dress for almost half of Season 2.

And James was always there, watching and protecting her. I really loved James here, as he was the one going through a lot and was still ready to sacrifice anything for Alyssa’s safety.

However, I didn’t enjoy Alyssa’s character here as she was quite annoying at times.

For example, when she married another man, she did not treat James well, despite having learned from his suffering.

We cannot blame her entirely, as she was still not over the incident that happened in the first season.

Thus, apart from comedy, the show also highlights some other issues and facts about life, including:

The extent to which post-traumatic stress disorder can alter a person,

It was beautifully told in the final episode, where they both confronted Bonnie and Alyssa told her that she was still haunted by it.

Her exact words were:

I’m always in that house.

I’m always in that room.

I can’t get out.

    That’s true.

We all have some memories or incidents that remain fresh in our minds, no matter how far we go.

Similarly, James. Her mother ended her life in front of him while he was just a little child.

Alyssa’s parents were divorced, and she had to live with his mother’s new family. This stuff does change a person’s overall personality in different ways, and I am glad that the series was able to present them nicely.

Apart from being only a comedy, this show also covers the deep messages and depression of both the characters:

Speaking of Bonnie, she was a crazy person in love.

It won’t be wrong to say that she was totally obsessed and blinded by a toxic relationship.

She was one of those who cannot see reality and are duped by their false feelings of love.

And that’s real. Such people do exist in real life.

Her character was also well-written and presented.

She was so out of her mind.

So, this show is a complete package for those who want to have a good time while learning some valuable lessons.

Just like the dance scene in Season 1, there was another very great moment between James and Alyssa in Season 2:

This is one of the cutest + most heartbreaking scenes in the series.

I felt really bad for James here.

He turned out to be such a cute fellow.

Great acting by Alex Lawther!

Comparison of Both Seasons

The show was overall excellent and gave us a lot of great moments to remember. But honestly speaking, I enjoyed Season 1 more.

That is not to say that Season 2 was not enjoyable; it was, but not as much as Season 1.

Season 1 was just hilarious.

Especially the part where they began to hang out and bond in their own creepy ways.

Also, I also enjoyed Alyssa’s father's character.

Another weirdo.

But there are also many great things in Season 2, like the bonding between James and his father. He was a very fun character, and the way they both started to get close together was one of the great moments to watch.

This is one of the moments that was meant to be heartbreaking, but Alyssa’s statement made it funny:

The dangerous part is that it’s almost all of us, not just her.

Unfortunately, this series has ended, and there are probably no more seasons of it as per the sources.

As a fan of this show, I would love to watch more of it, but the writers are done with it.

 No complaints.

The show was wrapped up very nicely, and the viewers are happy with it.

The overall series is simply amazing and a great thing to watch. The cherry on top is that it’s not too long as well.

Both seasons contain eight episodes that are no longer than 22 minutes long.

So, if you are bored and looking for something light and fun, do watch it.

I would love to add some best edits of this adorable couple:
