Gollum and Dobby: Unforgettable Characters of 2000s

We grew up watching Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies, and without any doubt, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that no other movie series gave us the magical experience that these two did.

Not only kids, but people of all age groups used to enjoy these movies. In fact, the audience eagerly awaited the next part.

It’s 2023, but these movies are still fresh.

When the final parts of these two came, there was a part of us that felt sad and even cried.

I still remember the last scene of Harry Potter, where all of them were now grownups and now taking their kids on the magical journey they had.

That moment somehow marked the end of our childhood as well.

Today, I would love to talk about two amazing characters who were given to us via their books and movies.

Let’s start with our cute

Dobby from Harry Potter

Such a sweet character with a sad ending

From his first scene to his last, he was always one of the most lovable characters we had.

I loved his voice and appearance; the only complaint I had was:

Why was he given so much screen time?

He was adorable. I haven’t read the books, but I really wish that the movie makers could give him more scenes.

He was humble, sweet, loyal, and a true friend to Harry Potter.

The best moment in this whole movie series for me was:

When Harry freed Dobby.

The happiness and relief in Dobby’s eyes brought happy tears to our eyes.

Harry and Dobby were one of the best duos.

We all cried for days when he died.

Dobby’s first words in the movie were:

Harry Potter.

But his last words were also:

Harry Potter.

He was a friend, which is almost impossible to find.

Harry was lucky to have him by his side.

No matter how often you watch, getting bored with Dobby’s scenes is beyond our control.

Now, let’s talk about one of the complex characters:

Gollum from The Lord of the Rings

Just like Frodo, I also pity Gollum. Of course, he was completely obsessed with the ring and its power, but he also suffered as the ring had complete control over him.

He was a sweet and innocent hobbit once, but everything changed for him after The Ring came into his life.

Do you remember the scene where Frodo calls him by his real name, Smeagol?

What a scene!

The surprise in his eyes after hearing his name after such a long time was a moment that gave us all goosebumps.

I was living in isolation for so long, and now he found out somebody knows and feels bad for him.

I admire how Frodo understands him and tries to be polite with him. Of course, Gollum was not only hated by the others, but he was also the one who was heavily tortured and beaten up throughout the whole series.

This makes me sad because it was not him, but The Ring, who did this to him.

I am glad that Frodo was able to understand what he did to turn him from innocent Smeagol to the obsessed Gollum.

I really felt bad for him in this scene.

He was surely not expecting this.

I felt such pity for him when he put his trust in Frodo and came towards him, but the very next second, he was captured and going to be tortured.

I really loved Gollum over here.

Gollum was a very complex character, and at times the audience was expecting some redemption from him. We cannot deny that Sam and Frodo were able to fulfill their task with his help.

If Gollum had not guided them, they could not complete their task at all.

This reminds me of:

Gollum vs. Sam

These two never get along, which got annoying for me at times. I didn’t like the way he hated Gollum, even when he was kind of on their side.

Sam was the guy who saw the darkness in him and was aware that this creature couldn’t be trusted.

That’s true.

Gollum was so corrupted by the Ring that even after trying, he was unable to free himself from its greed.

He was having an inner battle between his Gollum and Smeagol sides.

A part of him wanted to be loyal to Frodo, but

Smeagol inside of him was not strong enough to control Gollum.

That’s all I can say about him. He had a sad story that no one could ever imagine.

The thing that makes me feel bad for him is that he didn’t find peace at all.

The Ring controlled him until his death. Luckily, Frodo got over it because he had Sam and other great friends, but Smeagol was all alone in this.

That’s the idea behind the whole Lord of the Rings series. Once you are in possession of it, you are completely stuck with it.

Dobby and Gollum are both my favorites.

Where Dobby is the sweet one, Gollum is a complete savage. They both had different personalities and destinations.

The main thing that differentiates them from each other is:

Dobby died while protecting Harry Potter.

Gollum died while holding his precious
